Working on ’Worried about the Boy’ ( http://www.bbc.co.uk/tv/features/eighties-season/) was amazing, cast and crew are wicked and so much fun to work with. The production is part of BBC 2 80′s season. Produced by BBC and Red Production, Written by Tony Basgallop and directed by Julian Jarrold made working on this such a privilege. Douglas Booth is fabulous as Boy George. Some very talented actors in the line up, a complete must see.

I hope you ENJOY watching just as much as I enjoyed working on it.

Outcome of Accused Audition

I got the part of Maria in the Accused by Jimmy McGovern. We were on set yesterday working with director David Blair. He is a fabulous director to work with, he makes the environment for the actor very relaxed. I have recently worked with a few members of the crew on previous jobs; it is so nice to see familiar faces on set and to meet new people.

Working alongside Benjamin Smith and Ben Batt is hilarious both are very talented, warm and fun loving actors; I have giggled a lot with them. I will be attached to filming for the next week and cannot wait to be back on set working with everyone.

Melanie Potts

My sister Melanie Potts performed her showcase last week at the ‘Libary Theatre’. As sisters, we are always very honest about each other’s work and critical in our critique, striving to help each other improve. At the end of each performance we say ‘tell me what you really thought’, we respect each other enough to not fly kites and give honest opinions and constructive feed back if needed.

The showcase piece was ‘Spaced’ by Simon Pegg and Jessica Stephenson. Melanie played ‘Daisy’ and Andrew Knowles played ‘Tim’. Melanie or rather Mel, was brilliant. Her scene was very well performed, quick paced and got hearty laughter filled responses. The change in physical presence is what caught me, she became someone else, I looked for traits of my Mel on stage- I like to do that with actors I already know- and found non! Not even her yawn on entering the stage- all be it a huge cavernous yawn!!!- was Mels. The vocal print that Mel uses every day disappeared and this stroppy cheeky character was formed; enlightening and informing the scene.

The development through the scene and changes in mood were apparent but not screamed at the audience, allowing us to move along at an easy comfortably controlled laughter, without even realising it. I find, when some actors perform comic sketches, some fall into the trap of allowing the audience to control the laughter or they get caught up in the ecstatic feeling that happens when an audience laughs; without control some actors allow the audience to run away with them, each actor craving more of that ecstatic feeling, till finally the control of the scene is now out of the actors hand and in the audience.

I can safely say Mel and her partner Andrew Knowles produced a controlled comic piece that engaged and took me (plus the hearty laughing audience) into another world. Ah the beauty of fab acting and good theatre, a place for Escapism and Dreams.

I was pleased to see Mel had chosen very different character to Angels in America (which may I say was fantastic), this highlights her diversity and wide range of ability. I wish her all the best and can’t wait to watch and critique her next professional job.
All the best to UCLAN BA Acting students graduating this year and same to those heading to showcase in London!
Some incredible talent hitting us all very soon, keep your eyes wide!

Quick update! Cannes 2010, David Blair and Rose Gold

Hope all is well with everyone. Quick update on my hectic life at the moment.

I had some very exciting news from Stuart Wealands- Director/Producer/Writer and Actor of ‘Laminat’. He submitted Laminat to Cannes short file corner and…..we have been accepted!!! ‘Laminat heads to Cannes 2010’. I am incredibly excited and so proud to have been involved with the project. Congratulations to Stuart and all the other talented people who worked on it, I learnt so much from the experience and loved every minute.

At this moment in time I am nervously awaiting news on an audition. I went for the audition at Beverley Keoghs- she is lovely, I always manage to leave her office smiling and happy! I auditioned for David Blair, who directed Tess of the D’Urbervilles (one of my favourites). Auditioning was great, I enjoyed the experience of being redirected and just the fact that I was in the presence of David. It was like working with Julian Jarrold all over (he directed ‘Becoming Jane’, another of my favourites, Julie Walters was amazing in that! I worked with him on the rest Worried About The Boy BBC drama). I am not usually lost for words but sometimes when meeting these people (whose work I have watched and loved), I just ‘dry’ and end up forgetting my bag or saying something totally embarrassing, listening to myself saying it and screaming inside- but that’s just who I am, ah well! Back to the audition with David Blair, I just loved the whole experience, my feelings on if I have the part or not, are out. I would love the part but I just don’t know!!!!

Will keep you all updated with progress and on the outcome of the audition.

Working on Shameless (http://www.channel4.com/programmes/shameless/episode-guide/series-7/episode-13) was amazing, cast and crew are wicked and so much fun to work with. The production process is fast and just…pure quality. I worked under director Paul Walker; I would trust him, on set any day, he’s got a relaxed controlled attitude. Sally (Kelly) and Ciaran (Mickey) are so nice to work with and ooobbbbaaa talented. Working alongside Will Herbert (http://www.calaveracafe.com/menupage.php), Dan Nightingale and Kathryn Newsome was wicked and a treat as always. All top people and nice to work with familiar faces.

I will never forget working on shameless, I learnt so much and felt like a sponge all week.

HUGE thanks to all who worked on ep 13 for making it an experience I will not forget and continue to learn from.

To all viewers I hope you ENJOY watching just as much as I enjoyed working on it. Fab script!

BBC/HBO Five Days II

I had my first casting with Beverly Keogh in Manchester in September 2009. It was for the part of ‘Katie Marshall’ in the new BBC/HBO drama ‘Five Days II’; starring Surranne Jones, Anne Reid, Bernard Hill, Chris Fountain, Pooky Quesnel and many more. Written by the fabulous Gwyneth Hughes.

I found out about the casting a few hours before, as any actor knows there was a mad rush to grab the script and learn lines/get a feel for the character and try and prepare as much as one can.

This being the first audition with Beverly Keogh I was incredibly nervous. I turned up early dressed and dishevelled as ‘Katie Marshall’. Thank god I was early too, as I crossed referenced the scripts and found I had been sent the wrong section. Don’t Panic…aha…so I spent the next ten minutes learning the lines; then I was up and in to meet Beverly and David Shaw for the first time. The whole audition was very relaxed and enjoyable, even though I was shaking like a leaf. I left the room feeling happy to have met them both and feeling that I had done my best but mostly pleased I had the experience.

A few days later low and behold I had the part. *Lots of Jumping around and laughter*. The first job with my new agent Red Door- 3 days after signing with them!!

Filming on Five Days II was amazing. Peter Hoar- Director and Caroline Skinner –Producer, were both amazing to work with. The whole crew (on the days when I was on set – only two) where amazing, all so friendly, relaxed, fun and professional. I was working on set with Pooky Quesnel who played Maureen. Pooky is a fabulous person, she was incredibly helpful and relaxing to work with and very talented. She gave me some strong and helpful advice, for a young actor just starting out in the Industry. Thank you again Pooky.

I am so grateful for the experience I have had working on Five Days II, for being cast, meeting the crew and working with the other actors (Pooky), finally for the work my agent did in the process. I am looking forward to the screening and seeing everyone again. What a fabulous experience.

I have recently made a few design and structure changes to my website. I want to keep it updated with fresh and interesting content so that my website is exciting and a pleasure to read. Some of these changes have been visual and some “behind the scenes” for SEO purposes.
